Welcome to my page on this most fun of Blog Hops by Scrapbook Steals. If you were just on Deborah Johnson's page, you have come to the right place. I am the last (and hopefully not least) guest before you go back to where it all started. Here is the list again, for reference:
2) Becci Manies
3) Katrina Hunt
6) Erin Colby
7) Deborah Johnson (where you just were)
8) Michelle King (you are here)
I must admit that the idea of being a part of the blog hop was incredibly intimidating and then the thought going through my mind was, "I wonder what kind of paper kit we'll get to work with". I started thinking about mini albums, layouts, cards, etc...and then I found out we were going to be working with My Mind's Eye Journal Card Kit. They are just beautiful and can be used for so many things. I wanted to do something "out of the box" to really show that you can find other ways to use these adorable cards. The first idea that popped in my head was to make a "Family Tree" and that was exactly what I did (seems fitting for Mother's Day weekend). Here are the cards I chose to use and you can see that I started by inking the edges, adding cardstock/patterned paper to the backs, writing the names and relation of family members (to my daughters) and punching holes through them:
I added the pictures I printed of family members to the cards. I chose to do them all in sepia so that they worked together and did not clash with the colors on the cards. Here is the finished product:
I then also did a layout of my 4 month-old with the card used in its traditional capacity:
And one last item: a bookmark. I like the magnetic ones that close on your page so that they don't slip out. I used a magnetic sheet to put on the back of a card and cut the card in half to fold over on itself and then wove ribbon between the 2 pieces so that they would stay together. I don't know about you, but I hate when I am not sure what paragraph I am on, so this bookmark was made to indicate where I have left off:
As all good things come to an end, you have reached the end of the list for this hop! I hope that you have enjoyed it all and that somewhere you found some inspiration for your next project or 2. ReplyDeleteAnd the family tree. I do believe I will be attempting that in the near future!
Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteThe family tree is a great way to have the family displayed in a fun way for all to see and enjoy rather than being in a shoe box or closed in an album.
ReplyDeleteThat would make a great gift not just for Mother's Day but for other celebrations too.
Totally going to make some of the book marks - and with Grandpa turning 80 this year - the family tree might be just the perfect gift!
ReplyDeleteMore great ideas here, too! I REALLY like the way you designer your bookmark. I have made several, but they just clip magnetically over the top of the page to hold its spot. I like how yours clips to the side with the arrow pointing to where you should start reading again. Brilliant! I must make some like that.
